MPI trio receives funding from Volkswagen Foundation
Hannes Mutschler, Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) of Biochemistry in Martinsried, together with Dora Tang and Moritz Kreysing from the MPI of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, received 1.3 million euros in research funding from the Volkswagen Foundation.
The joint project of the three researchers investigates the origin of life with the goal of understanding how once-inanimate matter could become animate. The "Life? – A fresh scientific approach to the basic principles of life" funding initiative was established in 2015 and is directed at scientists working on interesting and potentially innovative research projects at the interface between the natural and life sciences. “Our vision is to reconstruct the process of the emergence and evolution of the first primitive cells in order to understand the origin of life. I am very pleased about the funding, it will assist us greatly in achieving this goal.”
