Research Department "Cell and Virus Structure"
Structural Biology, Cryo-Electron Tomography, Viruses, Membrane trafficking
John Briggs and his team started working at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in September 2021. Previously they were based at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK.
We are looking for new members of the team. Please check our Job offers.
The department studies the structure and the molecular assembly mechanisms of enveloped viruses such as influenza A virus, HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2, and of cellular trafficking vesicles including clathrin and COPI coated vesicles. They also develop and apply new approaches for “in situ” structural biology using cryo-electron tomography, cryo-fluorescence microscopy, and image processing.
