ANNE SPANG - In the Here and Now

About the artist

Anne Spang began her artistic work on silk - a medium whose lightness and dynamism brought out the interplay of color and movement particularly intensely. Her painted scarves were not only works of art, but also wearable art that constantly changed with use. Parallel to her scientific career - first at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, later in the USA - she created watercolors, sketches and charcoal drawings. During her time as a research group leader, her artistic work was largely dormant. It was only after her laboratory moved to the Biozentrum Basel that a new, third phase began: today she works mainly with acrylic and oil, without completely abandoning watercolor. Her painting is characterized by emotion, spontaneity and the connection to people and places that are close to her.

Duration of the exhibition and opening hours

The exhibition can be seen from June 16, 2025 to July 25,  2025  in our foyer. Mondays to Fridays from 8am to 10pm; Saturdays, Sundays and Holydays until 8pm; free entry.

On Monday, 16.06.2025, a vernissage will take place in the foyer of the main building from 06:00 p.m., to which the artist will also be present in person.
