In action endlessly - Scientists find new and effective mode of movement of white blood cells which maybe is also used by dangerous cancer cells

May 01, 2008

The movement of cells in the organism is regulated strictly and is limited to the respectively particular tissue. Only leukocytes, the white blood cells, are able to patrol freely in the body, in search of pathogens and other invaders. For the first time, Michael Sixt and his colleagues show that the rapid movement and extreme flexibility of leukocytes do not involve integrins. Publication in Nature, May 1, 2008.
