Female figures have stood in the centre of my paintings for the last few years. The figures originate from my own inspiration. I am often inspired by photographs out of the newspaper or works of known artists from art history. My method is more intuitive; the subject must move me formally or emotionally. This stir of interest gives me the urge to transfer the model to a painting and to put the figure in a new context.
During the process of painting, my whole attention is on the canvas. I forgo preparatory sketches and express the visual experience in brush strokes and shades of colour. Within the dynamics of shapes and colours an energy is born which can lead to new pictures.
