Gizem has grown up in Ankara, Turkiye where she studied Molecular Biology and Genetics and graduated with a MSc degree from Middle East Technical University. During her Master’s, she worked in the Molecular Signaling and Cancer Lab to decipher novel estrogen responsive genes in breast cancer. Meantime she developed an interest into epigenetics and later on joined Peter Becker’s group in LMU Biomedical Center, Munich as a PhD student to study chromatin dynamics in fruit flies. Her interest in gene regulation and epigenetics motivates her to study the principles of zygotic gene activation and developmental biology as a postdoc in Tachibana Lab. In her free time, she enjoys nature, art and cultural events as well as meeting with friends.
