Studying and Working in the Library
We offer in our reading room a peaceful atmosphere for concentrated learning and working. Moreover, computer workstations are available , which can be used for searching. By equipping with WLAN can also be accessed with the own notebook on Internet applications in the library.
Studyrooms / Cubicles
The Library provides 9 individual rooms for quiet study and for preparing your thesis. The rooms are individually lockable and equipped with desk, chair, and power supply and internet connection. The period of use is up to two months, extension possible. A study room is available to students and staff members of both institutes.
The study rooms must be reserved before use. Unfortunately, waiting times are long; so, applying early is advisable. Responsibility for the room lies with the patron who reserves the room.
Interested in a study? Simply book in person or by phone at Mr. Ernst (2529) or by email firstname.lastname@example.org. We will check when the next room is available for you and inform you about the next steps.
In addition, the Library offers 9 cubicles with a sealable container in the upper and lower shelf hall. The carrels are for short-term use and available on a first come, first served basis.
Alternatively, you can always use the free workplaces in the reading room.
Enjoy a quiet learning environment in the library!
The library provides 5 computers that can be used for literature search and scientific work. All computers can only be accessed by institutional account.
4 computers - two in the reading room, two downstairs - are for members of the MPI Biochemistry who have an account in the Computing Centre of the MPIB.
Members of MPI Neurobiology have to use the computer in the reading room window with their own account to get direct access to the intranet of their own institute.
Guests can use the internet with their own notebook via WLAN. Guest accounts - passport or ID card provided - can be obtained in the library.
Off-site access via VPN (only for members of the institutes)
The mpibLAN is protected by a firewall so that direct access to particular services (e.g. EJournals) of the Library of the Max Planck Institutes Martinsried is not possible.
To use VPN connections you need a user name (unix user name and password) and you must install the client. To find out more please contact the Computing Centre or use this link https://www.biochem.mpg.de/intranet/methodischer_service/mpibrz/Netzwerk/VPN_SSH/index.html
There are three printers in the library; one just for access via WLAN.
The library provides 1 photocopier available for copying per code (members of the institutes).
Printouts costs 10 cents per page, payable at the information desk. A collaboration with scientists of the Martinsrieder Institute does not substantiate any free copy / printouts. Receipts are not issued.
The integrated scanner will produce PDF files for free which can be sent through email.
