Protein Production Core Facility

The service for protein expression and purification is assisting projects in designing strategies for high level expression of soluble proteins and by providing vectors and strains from our in-house collection. Specifically. we clone the gene of interest into expression vectors, rapidly screen for optimal combinations of vectors, strains and expression conditions and produce the protein of interest in E. coli, Pichia pastoris, mammalian and insect cells. We produce biomass at 1L to 10L - scale using a multiple bioreactor system for high cell density fermentation of bacteria and yeast cells and a reusable bioreactor for cell culture. Proteins are then purified using standard techniques and chromatography systems. Quality control is routinely assessing protein identity, purity, stability and folding using a set of different biochemical and biophysical methods.
