Studying and Working in the Library / WLAN

We offer in our reading room a peaceful atmosphere for concentrated learning and working. Moreover, computer workstations are available , which can be used for searching. By equipping with WLAN can also be accessed with the own notebook on Internet applications in the library.

Studyrooms / Cubicles

The Library provides 9 individual rooms for quiet study and for preparing your thesis. The rooms are individually lockable and equipped with desk, chair, and power supply and internet connection. The period of use is up to two months, extension possible. A study room is available to students and staff members of both institutes.
The study rooms must be reserved before use. Unfortunately, waiting times are long; so, applying early is advisable. Responsibility for the room lies with the patron who reserves the room.

Interested in a study? Simply book by email library@biochem.mpg.de. We will check when the next room is available for you and inform you about the next steps.

In addition, the Library offers 9 cubicles with a sealable container in the upper and lower shelf hall. The carrels are for short-term use and available on a first come, first served basis.

Alternatively, you can always use the free workplaces in the reading room.
Enjoy a quiet learning environment in the library!

Workstations / WLAN

The library provides 3 computers that can be used for literature search and scientific work. All computers can only be accessed by institutional account.

2 computers - one in the reading room, one downstairs - are for members of the MPI Biochemistry who have an account in the Computing Centre of the MPIB.

Members of MPI Neurobiology have to use the marked computer in the reading room with their own account to get direct access to the intranet of their own institute.

Guests can use the internet with their own notebook via WLAN. Guest accounts - passport or ID card provided - can be obtained in the library.

About the library

On the 1. October 2004 the Library of the Max-Planck-Institutes Martinsried was founded. It was formed out of the amalgamation of the formerly independent libraries of the Institute of Biochemistry and the Institute of Neurobiology and serves both institutes. As a special library for natural science its main function is to have the scientific literature of the research areas in the institutes as up-to-date and as complete as possible in a reference library.
The library supports the scientific work of the institutes via an optimal supply of literature and information. Today we have about 45.000 books and bound journal volumes in our library. The scientists have access to more than 30.000 online journals as well as the most reference databases for their research.
