Animal House

Animal House

The main task of the animal facilities is to house and breed various animal species and strains according to the needs of the scientists working at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB).

Only healthy animals can meet the requirements of research. Therefore, the Animal Facility makes sure that the housing and handling of laboratory animals is carried out under high hygienic levels and according to the natural needs of each species. The quality of these high standards is also controlled by an Animal Welfare Officer.

In addition, the following services are available to the scientists:

The main species (> 90 per cent) are mice, rats and the zebrafish. The laboratory animals used in scientific projects is predominately covered by the breeding in the Animal Facility.

Head of Animal Facility: Dr. Corinna Mörth and Dr. Claudia Pace (Deputy)
