Rapid protein identification is provided by peptide mass fingerprinting using MALDI-TOF/MS after protein cleavage in-gel, on-membrane or in solution. Furthermore, this technique allows a purity check of a protein or peptide preparation including a precise molecular weight determination. Proteome analyses by isotope labelling of intact proteins are done using the ICPL-technology. 

For those analyses the latest technologies are available including MALDI-TOF (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption) (Reflex III, Bruker) and MALDI-TOF-TOF (4700 Proteomics Discovery System, Applied Biosystems) which allows fast, accurate and highly reproducible identification of proteins by peptide mass fingerprinting and peptide sequencing.
