Jobs

We are currently looking for motivated new group members who are interested to work in an international and interdisciplinary research environment. Applications for positions as Diploma student, PhD student or Postdoc are always welcome. Candidates should preferentially have a strong background in cell biology, protein biochemistry or biophysics.

We are also looking for people with programming experience who are interested in bio imaging applications and image processing. Working knowledge of Matlab, ImageJ, C++, Java or Labview is desireable.  For job applications please inquire directly with Roland Wedlich-Soldner wedlich@biochem.mpg.de

Current Projects:

In a DFG funded project we are currently investigating the remodeling of a cortical actin-myosin network on the apical surface of epithelial cells and the role of this network for morphological transitions occuring during cancer progression and wound healing.

We are looking for a motivated diploma or master student with engineering or physics background to assist in this project. The main task will be to design, construct and characterize a motorized sample holder, which can be adapted to a Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy (TIRFM) setup already existing in our lab. This holder will be used to perform TIRFM at the apical surface of cells, thereby increasing image contrast and reducing photobleaching. In addition, precise control of sample position will be used to mechanically perturb cells. This project will combine training in physics and cell biology and is ideally suited for students with interdisciplinary beckground and/or ambitions.
