Colon Cancer
Identification of tumour markers in plasma of patients with colon carcinoma
The present project deals with the identification of tumor markers in plasma of patients with colon carcinoma, using proteomics technologies.
It can be expected, that during the development of severe diseases already before the occurrence of pathological symptoms changes in the proteome pattern in the plasma of those patients can be observed. Therefore, ideal plasma samples to follow those pathological changes should be from patients where plasma is also available from several time points before the occurrence of the first clinical symptoms. Those patients can be statistically expected within the pool of blood donors. The “Blutspendedienst des bayrischen Roten Kreuzes” can extract patients out of nearly 300 000 donors every year.
Within this project, the development of tumor markers in patents with identical genetically background can be observed for the first time. Those samples are used for proteome analysis with the ICPL-technology which has recently been developed in our department.
The present project is a BMBF funded cooperation between the Blutspendedienst des Bayrischen Roten Kreuzes and the Max-Planck-Institute
