Description Papers is a reference management software primary for Mac OS X and now also available for Windows, used to manage bibliographies and references. It is mainly used to organize references and maintain a library of PDF documents.

What we like
  • bookmarklet "Open in Papers" - opens current browser window directly in Papers and references can be imported easily
  • organizes 85 different document types
  • "My Research" folder collects all documents in which citations were made with Papers and these documents can be opened right out of Papers
  • all collections installed in "Livfe" are always available within Papers "Collections" ➩ all references stored by others are available in Papers in real time
  • tool "Manuscript" can be started within any program on the MAC and allows citing references easily
  • Imports PDF files and automatically extracts their bibliographic information
What we miss
  • many times only single references can be imported
  • integrated database search only offers simple search functionalities
  • bookmarklet "Open in Papers" only works with Firefox and Safari
  • synchronization across multiple devices and platforms not available
