PhD or Postdoc Position in Cryo-Electron Tomography Image Processing
The position is available immediately. Please note that the laboratory will move to the Bijvoet Center at Utrecht University (The Netherlands) in Summer 2016.
Job description: Our research focuses on structural studies of membrane-associated processes in their native settings by cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) in conjunction with advanced image analysis (see also: Pfeffer et al, Nat. Comm. 2015 6:8403, Nat. Comm. 2015 6:6019, Nat. Comm. 2014 5:3072). The successful candidate will develop and apply new computational methods for three-dimensional tomographic reconstruction and statistical analysis to mine the volumetric data (see also: Chen et al, Structure 2014 22:1528–37, J. Struct. Biol. 2014 185:309-316, J. Struct. Biol. 2013 182:235-245).
Requirements: The successful PhD candidate holds an excellent master degree in (bio)physics, mathematics, (bio)chemistry, computational sciences, or a related field of science. The PostDoc candidate has an excellent PhD in (bio)physics, (bio)chemistry, computational sciences or mathematics and previous experience in structural biology. Previous experience with electron cryo-microscopy and image processing would be a plus. Strong written and oral communication skills in English and great interest in biological research are required.
Application: Please send your CV, two references and a brief statement outlining your interests and relevant work experience to Friedrich Förster (foerster at biochem.mpg.de).
